SRI KAMARIAH CHILDREN WORKSHOP DAY AND PARENTING TALK 22 SEPTEMBER 2012 (SATURDAY).

Reading workshop is one of the key components in a balanced literacy program. 

The purpose of reading workshop is to encourage fluency and provide time to foster the love of reading and to learn about texts in a variety of ways. 

1. Reading session:

Mini-lesson
A mini-lesson is a brief, focused, teacher directed activity done in an entire group setting. Besides, teachers will also provide some techniques and strategies.

·         Expectations, routines, and rules in reading workshop

·         How to choose a “Good Book”.

·         Talk about new books, how this relates to children current knowledge.

·         Goal setting for reading. 


Read aloud
The read-aloud is an activity which the teacher reads a book aloud to the whole group

The purpose of the read aloud is to model appropriate reading behaviors and reading strategies.

Independent reading and small group time

Independent reading is the important part of the reading workshop.


2. Arts and crafts session

For arts and crafts session we will give children some hands on activity. 

Through this kind of activity, we can train their eye-hand coordination, attention, concentration and also having enjoyment. 

In this session, we will teach them how to make and fold paper craft barn. 

After that, children have to draw their favorite animals (5 animals).
