SRI KAMARIAH CHILDREN WORKSHOP DAY AND PARENTING TALK 22 SEPTEMBER 2012 (SATURDAY).

Reading workshop is one of the key components in a balanced literacy program. 

The purpose of reading workshop is to encourage fluency and provide time to foster the love of reading and to learn about texts in a variety of ways. 

1. Reading session:

Mini-lesson
A mini-lesson is a brief, focused, teacher directed activity done in an entire group setting. Besides, teachers will also provide some techniques and strategies.

·         Expectations, routines, and rules in reading workshop

·         How to choose a “Good Book”.

·         Talk about new books, how this relates to children current knowledge.

·         Goal setting for reading. 


Read aloud
The read-aloud is an activity which the teacher reads a book aloud to the whole group

The purpose of the read aloud is to model appropriate reading behaviors and reading strategies.

Independent reading and small group time

Independent reading is the important part of the reading workshop.


2. Arts and crafts session

For arts and crafts session we will give children some hands on activity. 

Through this kind of activity, we can train their eye-hand coordination, attention, concentration and also having enjoyment. 

In this session, we will teach them how to make and fold paper craft barn. 

After that, children have to draw their favorite animals (5 animals).

Reading Workshop at SRJK (c) Kulai 2 (8 September 2012)- 古来二小阅读研讨会

Thanks to SRJK (c) Kulai, headmaster, teachers and pupils gave us such a 
good Opportunity to conduct a reading workshop.

We had done our reading workshops with Kulai 2 primary 5 pupils.


During the talk, we had covered:

Why children do not like to read?

How to choose a good book?

How to predict contest of a book?

Then, we gave children speed reading test, each group have to send one representative to read.



Through this activity, we want to know their reading ability.

Last, we teach them what is word family and the functions of its.

Through this word family, we want to assess their memory and respond.

And

Thanks to our student for joining the Raffles Reading Workshop.  




在这研讨会里, 我们与古来二小的五年纪的小朋友们研讨关于阅读的课题。

阅读活动中,我们包含了以下的活动

为什么现在的小孩不喜欢阅读?

怎样选出一本好书?

怎样去推测一本书的内容?


过后, 我们给孩子们快速阅读比赛。

通过这项比赛, 我们可以知道孩子们的阅读能力。

最后, 我们也引导孩子们关于相似拼音, 它的好处。

通过相似拼音的活动, 我们要测试孩子们的反应能力和记忆。

READING WORKSHOP- KRISTA KINDERGARTEN

Objective:

The purpose of reading workshop is to encourage fluency and provide time to foster the love of reading and to learn about texts in a variety of ways.

1. Reading session:

Mini-lesson

A mini-lesson is a brief, focused, teacher directed activity done in an entire group setting. The teacher will use specific strategies through demonstration and modeling in this lesson.

Read aloud

The read-aloud is an activity which the teacher reads a book aloud to the whole group. The purpose of the read aloud is to model appropriate reading behaviors and reading strategies.

Independent reading and small group time

Independent reading is the important part of the reading workshop. During this time, children have to practice the strategies that modeled by the teacher in the mini lesson and read aloud lesson.

Shared reading

Sharing time is very important, we want to assess what children have and have not learned.

 2. Games session

In the game sessions, we will divide the children into groups. Through this activity, we want to train their observation skill, memory skill, listening skills, visual perception, concentration, understanding and thinking ability.

       “ Zolar and Zina loves to read” game (Galaxy English- Yellow)
