PHONICS ADVANCED, STORY READING AND READING 10 AND 11 NOVEMBER 2012 (WEEK 2)

In our phonics advanced session, children had learned about “BR” blending sound
Teacher guided the children to learn a different word of BRs, such like breakfast, branch, broccoli, brown, brother, bread, bricks and so on.

Besides learning 10 BR words, they also have to think out
the others BR words that they know.

For example, the children told me the words like brain, bring or break

In story reading and reading session, the teacher gave the children “titanic” article.

Some of the children knew that what is titanic, especially, Ming Hong.

He was very interested with titanic and he even tells me that he knows how to draw the Titanic ship, how many people died in that disaster and he also explained to their classmate that titanic’s story.

In the game session, the teacher split them into 2 group where they have to write the new vocabulary they learned on the whiteboard.

Through this activity, we want to enhance their writing speed and also their listening skills.

For me, it is no point to give children spelling if they can’t even recognize the words.

Spelling it can be good to make them learn new words, but if everything comes to memorizing, the things that they learn won’t be long lasting, especially, for those who are new learners.
