In this parenting talk, we had bring out how to make kids love reading

-      Learning attitude

What kind of attitude will lead to children have a positive attitude in learning especially in reading.

-      Goal setting

It gave parents and children some ideas how to guide children to have a good goal setting which this very good technique in shaping the children's positive learning behavior.

-      Time management

How to guide your kids to have better time management. As parents, what time of attitudes they need to have and how to train their kids to have better time management. 

SRI KAMARIAH CHILDREN WORKSHOP DAY AND PARENTING TALK 22 SEPTEMBER 2012 (SATURDAY).

Reading workshop is one of the key components in a balanced literacy program. 

The purpose of reading workshop is to encourage fluency and provide time to foster the love of reading and to learn about texts in a variety of ways. 

1. Reading session:

Mini-lesson

A mini-lesson is a brief, focused, teacher directed activity done in an entire group setting. Besides, teachers will also provide some techniques and strategies.

·         Expectations, routines, and rules in reading workshop

·         How to choose a “Good Book”.

·         Talk about new books, how this relates to children current knowledge.

·         Goal setting for reading. 

Read aloud

The read-aloud is an activity which the teacher reads a book aloud to the whole group. 

The purpose of the read aloud is to model appropriate reading behaviors and reading strategies.

Independent reading and small group time

Independent reading is the important part of the reading workshop.

2. Arts and crafts session

For arts and crafts session we will give children some hands on activity. 

Through this kind of activity, we can train their eye-hand coordination, attention, concentration and also having enjoyment. 

In this session, we will teach them how to make and fold paper craft barn. 

After that, children have to draw their favorite animals (5 animals).

SECOND KL PARENTING TALK IN PUTRA HOTEL KUALA LUMPUR (1 JULY 2012)

We had successfully conducted our second parenting talk in Kuala Lumpur.

Thanks to all our product subscribers for joining our event.

Our objective to conduct this parenting talk is to educate parents “how to teach children to enjoy reading”.

For children, we also provide them some activities to let them having fun.

During individual self - introductions, it was encouraging them to interact more in English and build up their self confidence while speaking in public.

Through the mind mapping activity, it guided children to recognize their strengths and weaknesses. 

We do encourage them to list down five of their strengths and 3 of their weaknesses.

Why 5 strengths, because we want to develop their positive thinking and eliminate their negative ones.

In mind test activity, it also encouraged children to think in more rational ways. 

Last, in reading session, we test their reading ability.

Frankly, they had very good reading.
